Victoria: WEEK1

My PR practicum kicked off this past Monday morning on March 12th. I walked into HeartPress PR and felt immediately welcomed by the team and was gifted my personal HeartPress PR coffee mug. My heart was so full and right in that moment I knew I had made the right choice. It took approximately 1 minute to make new connections in the PR industry in Victoria – thank you HeartPress PR for this opportunity and for being so kind!

My first week consisted of learning our brand voice, getting to know our current clients and the new projects we have upcoming. In addition to this, the team had two big presentations and an important pitch that I got to sit in and take part in. My first week was full with a lot of work and that was just the beginning. I love every minute in the office and as each day goes by I am now more than ever sure about my career choice in PR.

When it comes to lululemon I was not nervous to meet the team at all. Walking into lululemon felt like walking into a room full of more ‘family’ members! New faces with big smiles and filled with lots of love, positivity, and energy! The store felt like home and I am so grateful to be a part of such an amazing company – #joblove.

Two tools we use for communication – check it out:

-Constant Contact

Coffee Shop Of The Week:
Caffe Fantastico was the first coffee shop I went to and the views in this shop are beautiful! My supervisor and I took our one-on-one meeting over to this cafe on a sunny day and the scenery was beautiful! You definitely need to try there peanut butter cookie with a side of Cafe Au Lait (coffee of the day) – textured steamed milk. Your choice of texture!
St Patricks Day – Woo! I hit up The Canoe Pub and a live local band called OK Charlie performed top hits – you bet I was on the dance floor singing a long!
Stay tuned !
I will be blogging weekly about my experience and takeaways throughout my time at HeartPress PR, new findings in Victoria, coffee shops – obviously!, lululemon Victoria, and my networking experience.

Monday Motivation: KlersFitLife

Body image is something I have struggled with over the years and it wasn’t until recently (September 2017) I began a relationship with the gym (again) but was determined to approach it with a healthier mindset.

To love my body everyday, wake up with positive energy, gratitude, and a heart overflowing with a whole lot of love – so much that I will share it with everyone else around me. Everyday I learn, grow, and love my body. I focus on the positive and celebrate the small victories because these are important too!

Below is a little recap from my LIVE video that Sid Akbari (Health + Fitness Coach) aka my trainer and great friend did today

  • Current weight 108lb – 5’1
  • Find Sid on Instagram @hdfitnessbc
    • Sid has been in the industry for 5 years
  • How long have I been training with Sid?
    • 4-5 months
    • Started with 3x a week the first 3 months
    • Currently seeing Sid once a month
  • My goal: maintain a healthy lifestyle – gain strength, grow my glutes and tone!

2018-03-05 03395501530..jpg

  • Intermitten Fasting – first month – endurance training
    • “diets that cycle between a period of fasting and non-fasting during a defined period”
  • Hypertrophy training – putting on size
    • volume training
  • Focus moved to strength training
    • “if you want to build size you need to lift heavy. You also need to eat more – especially if you want a booty”- Sid
    • Main muscle is gluteus maximus – eat lots of good food!
    • It’s still good to do the other small exercises to stabilize your muscles BUT you do still need to lift heavy!

Studio Classes I like to attend:

    • Oxygen Yoga, New Westminster – Samara Dawn is an amazing instructor. I attend this studio for deep stretch, yoga, fast and furious, or power core classes.
    • Sauna + Hot Tub – sweat it out! I like to change it up every week and certain weeks I choose to hit the recreation centres for my workouts and relax my body in the hot tub. I love to stretch out in the sauna and recently I have been putting in some ab work too!
    • Yyoga – this studio has a different atmosphere and it is very yoga focused. If I really want to lay low and am feeling super stressed out I tend to head over to Yyoga on Highgate. Something about this studios atmosphere that draws me in when I am stressed.
    • All City Athletics – Boxing
    • Eastwood Cycle – Spin! Tessa Goldberger is a gem!
    • Harbour Dance Centre – I grew up dancing & was on a competitive team for 13 years. I like to get in the studio from time to time. Although hip hop was my main style I have been attending Heel classes – getting my sass on & sweating it out? That’s a yes – ha!

  • How do you get a flatter stomach?
    • general rule is with every meal try to have fibre, carb, and a protein source”- Sid
      • Some goodies: broccoli, sweet potato and chicken (example)
    • increase water intake – a lot of weight your caring is NOT body fat but water weight – when you don’t drink enough water your body retains more water – Drinking water will help you get rid of that excess weight”
      • This is why I have increased my water intake to 3.5-4L a day

Be prepared to be in the restroom a lot when you start this- HA!

  • Prepare your meals
  • What do you recommend to eat before/after workouts?
    • “Something that gives you energy – such as potatoes. Eating good carbs after a workouts increases your insulin level which helps with protein synthesis – building new muscles” – Sid

Currently, I am eating what I crave and I am not on a “strict” diet. However, I will be challenging my body a little more and will NOT be touching any goodies starting the week of March 12 – stay tuned!

-Track by taking photos – monthly

-Take measurements

-I don’t track my weight – weight can fluctuate

-I track my strength

(ex. I use to only squat 90lb vs 160-180lb today both times weighing at 108 lb)

Although Sid definitely joked in the LIVE video about steroids – ha! It’s been a very long time since I have taken any supplements.

I did start taking pre-workout in January but I don’t use it for every session.

I am looking into purchasing protein (for busy days), BCAA + water tight (helps me drop more water weight).

  • you should only be taking supplements if you are not getting all the nutrients you need. For example, protein shakes” – Sid

There you have it – a little recap from my LIVE video today with Sid. If you have any questions or inquiries about what was said in the video or the blog please don’t be afraid to ask – I am also open to feedback.

Happy Monday!

look good, feel good, FOCUS on the good.

“It’s a twin thing”

In early March we were approached to take part of an inspiring project, CommYOUnityYVR. The last couple of days you have seen us mention this event in our social media channels – we’re super excited and touched to have been asked to take part in such an inspiring project. The screening event for CommYOUnityYVR is tomorrow, June 10. It is aimed to promote local entrepreneurs to share their story and inspire others. We are grateful to have been asked to take part in such an amazing project and vision because we love to share stories and collaborate with locals – we love what we do. Kiana Heighton, director of the show, Co-Founder and Community Event Director of Community for a Sustainable World collaborated with a total of 30 entrepreneurs from different fields. Kiana asked questions (tough ones too), and dug deep to reveal each story and have it presented publicly on screen night to a group of local individuals. A big shoutout to Sandy M for all the editing and her videography skills, and another shout out to Tessa B and Ashley R for coming together and bringing a vision to life.

We are ready to mingle, eat, and have some drinks on Saturday! More importantly, to collaborate, connect, and speak to many entrepreneurs and individuals. We look forward to sharing our story, learning about others obstacles, challenges and success. To inspire and be inspired!

As entrepreneurs, we are thrilled to be a part of this moving project that will be happening this coming Saturday. We shared our story with Kiana and got deep down and personal with her about Gopublikk as a business and how we started laying the groundwork for success. Being part of this screening brings us so much joy – to be a part of a night that can impact not just one person, but several from the community to commit to an unrelenting pursuit of a goal they may have – that itself is rewarding. We love what we do and you’ll find us sharing that in everything that we do.

This Saturday it is going to be an honour to be in a room filled with many individuals that share the same vision; bringing the community together.

Catch us at 397 Alexander St. Vancouver, BC V6A 1C4 🙂

(Yeah, we put the address there on purpose!)

Passion + Love goes a long way

Aside from all the questions we get asked, their are two that always come up. That is,  “why do [we] work and go to school full time?” and “how do [we] manage to do so much with such little sleep?” Our answer to this is very simple. We love and enjoy everything that we do. We have goals and aspirations that drives us to take things further and look beyond the horizon. As much as we don’t like doing homework, we love what we learn. As much as we like our sleep more than our work, we love our jobs. We’re used to working extra hard and putting in extra hours so we have the option to get the things that we want and more. To achieve greatness and become unstoppable is the goal here. So we shoot for the stars and expect results later and not right away. This way we are forced to always be on our A game and surprised when we do see our results and achievements instantly. And who doesn’t like surprises? The excitement you feel when you get the unexpected is like the one you get from a sudden standing ovation. Best.feeling.ever.

Now to answer the question “Why do we work and go to school full time?” Well for the most part we do it because we want to and we enjoy it. We also like to think and do things outside of the average circle of people. Keep in mind when we say average, we’re referring to what we’ve read and heard from others; that is we live in a world where their are three different types of people. Each which choose to make decisions and live their life differently. The most common type we hear about is those who settle for mediocrity. We hear more about these kind of individuals because its “easy” to seperate and distinguish them from others. Mediocre people tend to end up settling for whatever and not max their potential. For this reason, we strive to be above average. We also say it’s doable because of the support system that we have. Although we may be pushing it, we go out with our friends and family, and we make room for some alone time. At the end of the day it’s all worth it. Going back to hitting the books and working full time, we want to put an emphasis on the fact that we don’t always find it being dreadful. Perspective is everything – that’s why we take on a lot of things that we have passion for.  We are students who pay for our own education, we want to be able to afford a place and move out, we also need to pay our bills, we invest in our business, we’re growing our business, AND we want to travel. These are some of the reasons why we are motivated to do both. We’re determined to get things done, but to us it’s not how fast we get it done – more so how we get it done. We bring what we learn into our work to gain experience and to extend our knowledge. We bring our work to school because it’s fun and it’s related to what we’re learning. What’s even more fun is we have passion for what our end goal and to say we’re excited is an understatement. Ultimately, we do both because although we walk around tired and sometimes drained, we are happy and enjoy every minute of it. Gaining experience while developing our minds and skills at the same time? Yeah, we’re all for that.

Moving to the next question, “How do we manage to do so much with such little sleep?” Well the answer to this isn’t too different from the one we answered above. Aside from taking our Arbonne energy boost, drinking coffee and tea, power naps and gym sessions for energy boost – it all comes down to the passion and love that goes behind everything we do. If we didn’t wake up loving our jobs we wouldn’t be working as hard. Sleep is important (hence, the naps), but we learn to function under short hours of sleep because sometimes waking up extra early or sleeping late to finish a project will get you one step closer to your end goal. Being able to motivate yourself is one thing to learn, but we find that sometimes what motivates you isn’t always enough. Motivating factors vary and sometimes don’t go a long way. For example, money. That’s a common one we hear and we witnessed first hand that, that only goes so far. On the contrary, if you do something you’re passionate about and wake up to something you love, it will make a difference. Try it and tell us if you wouldn’t sacrifice a little sleep for it?

We are are willing to compromise and make sacrifices for the things we love (and same goes for the people we love). So that is why we are more than okay to do all this work and function under such little sleep. This is also why we are careful when choosing when to collaborate and in choosing with who we want to partner with. We only ever want to give our best and our fullest attention. We work with those that we feel resonates us and our business.

So we don’t kid when we say passion and love goes a long way for us.

Daily Arbonne Intake

I’m sure you’ve seen our posts on Arbonne and so we wanted to share with you all our everyday essentials with some of the products we use.

To begin, we will start off with our daily Arbonne Protein shake. It comes in 2 flavours, vanilla and chocolate. We take this every day to start off our morning with high protein. We also like to make a shake before or after a workout. You can add banana and other fruits with it!

After breakfast, around noon time if not after noon time, we take an Energy Fizz stick. Our days start around 3:30am or 6:30am-7am, and for that reason we take this to give us a bit of kick to continue our day. With that in mind, this isn’t something you have to take daily; we just do it because of our early mornings to start work, school, homework, and house work; as you can see, we have long days. Aside from that, we take our energy fizz because also tastes yummy. It comes in two flavours and my personal favourite is pomegranate! Most of us don’t like taking things that leave us with a bad taste in out mouth, and trust us when we say this wont!

Moving forward, we use our awesome tasteless Fibre Boost! We use this when prepping dinner.

Have you ever loved anything tasteless? If not, try this. This allows you to add and mix it with anything while providing you with 12 grams of fibre. You can read more below.

Lastly, we drink Arbonnes Herbals tea. We drink one cup at least once a day. We give this to our mom as well – she loves it! It makes us feel cleansed, relax and good. Usually at night is always nice to have, as well as mid day. You can take it whenever, really.

….AND that’s a wrap!

Below is a picture on how you can use everything together – excluding the herbal tea, but including the Greens Balance. We do take the Green Balance, but not on a daily basis – not because we don’t like it. It is just as important to have your greens daily, but we simply do it by assuring we eat our greens. So we take it when we don’t eat enough throughout our day.

For more questions or information, you can go to our GoArbonne page or email us!

It’s a new year and we are excited!

Thinking about everything that we did in 2016…well naturally because we’re both woman who are emotional and busy, I think of the word “Panic.”Because of the amount of work projects we’ve been a part of, it has been one hectic year for us. Despite the success we’ve obtained and the goals we’ve achieved, our road to get there was difficult- but not impossible. Before we get started on how we felt this year, we want to say that we are happy and thankful for all the people we connected and partnered with. Throughout our journey, some of these people have motivated us even more to make movements that empower others, but mainly one another. Not only have we grown individually, but together as business partners we have stepped it up and also grown immensely. We embarked on a new approach for our business and really turned something from good to great.

Now with 2017 here, Kleyra and I are looking for nothing but the same thing – if not more. We stand by one another, we help and support one another, and we also challenge one another. We believe and hold ourselves accountable to a lot of things. Before Kleyra and I started Gopublikk we knew that going into it we had to prepare ourselves mentally; tell ourselves that anything is possible and that patience is a virtue. With those two things in mind, we both became capable of maintaining the same level of intensity and commitment to make things happen – even when it gets tough. Lets face it, overcoming adversity isn’t easy.

2016 was rough because we definitely were fighting against time. We realized that we needed to get so much done in less time. This was our fault. Being able to execute things accordingly resulted in sleepless nights, lots of shakes to replace meals, and long nights of scheduling. For this reason, we found ourselves trusting our instinct more then usual to get things done. Their had been many moments where we were just sitting at our dinner table contemplating how things were going to be completed with so many ideas and things in mind. With all things considered, we started feeling anxiety and feeling stressed because we both would get overwhelmed with our homework, other jobs, and our home life. Our life isn’t balanced. We can try and say we divide our time equally, but realistically we just know that as long as we make time for the things we want and the people we love; we’re more than okay. By making room and setting this as a priority for the two of us, it helped make things a lot easier and bareable. Love and support goes a long way. Anyway, last year we gathered our thoughts and process during the year and this year we did it before it started – we’re already on a roll!

Get ready for us Vancouver!
